Wrapping Up the Season
It's the last month of the spring semester. There is one more tournament. Then the BCFU End of the Year party.
No I'm not crying, you're crying.
Let's reminisce on the past couple of weeks. Since the second to last tournament, the National Speech Championship, on March 24, we have had a lot of on campus activities.
Coach Matt won the Chopped competition hosted by The Food Connection supported by Berry College Volunteer Services to increase awareness on food waste. BCFU team member Anna Claire assisted in creating & managing the event and it was an awesome success.
Earlier that same day, speech & drama middle and high school students from a homeschool support-system in Woodstock, Ga, came to visit Berry and experience BCFU. Coach Hope showed them around the BCFU space and explained how the team works. Then, three BCFU team members performed their events and answered questions about college forensics from the students.
Campus Carrier featured our national championship in their March 29 issue! It features interviews from two novices who competed in Novice National. We are thankful to the Berry College student newspaper for reporting the story.
On April 3, the Berry College Communication Department hosted The Bobbys, The COM awards night where the department and every student publication team within communication department awards students for their impressive work from the academic year. BCFU awarded freshmen Shelby Newland and Jacob Pritchett and juniors Avery James and Beth Anne DeKeizer with awards that illustrated not only their talent, but their handwork, dedication, and enthusiasm for the BCFU team. The whole team was overjoyed to support these amazing members! Also, Coach Matt's baby was in attendance and she is a very valuable team member.
A week later, on April 10, Berry College hosted their annual Symposium on Student Scholarship, which is an all campus event that allows students to present their research from the academic year. We had nine team members perform their forensics events at symposium.
The day after the symposium, April 11, BCFU hosted our own showcase on campus. Coach Matt and Hope chose seven team members to perform. The event turnout was a huge success and it was so cool to see the campus come out to support the team and view the award-winning performances from the year.
BCFU also wants to congratulate our club officers for the 2018-2019 season:
President - Beth Anne DeKeizer
Vice President - Avery James
Treasurer - Chase Hollub
Historian - Shelby Newland
Now, we only have one tournament of the season left, the Interstate Oratorical Association National Championship on April 28-29. BCFU is so excited to be sending the top two persuasion speakers in the state, Britton Ody and Anna Claire Tucker, to the oldest collegiate speech competition.
What a year it has been! This past month has been an amazing experience to see the team come together, on and off campus. Stay tuned for the last tournament updates and continue to follow all our social media. Thank you to everyone for the support!
